NATURAL FOOD REMEDY FOR HOT FLASHES – YIN DEFICIENCY
Mashed Yam Recipe for Menopause / Yin deficiency
2 Tbs. ghee (clarified butter – melted butter let it start to cool and skim the fat globs off the top)
1 Chinese Yam
Mash yam with ghee until soft. add salt to taste
Chinese Yam Chicken Soup
1 lb. chicken meat/bones
1 lb. (5oog) fresh huai shan(淮山 huai shan /山药 shan yao), peeled and cut into chunks
2 – 3 carrots, chopped
4 oz. (100g) yu zhu (玉竹)solomon seal root (optional)
2 Tbs. gou qi zi (枸子) or gojiberries
20 – 30 red dates (for sweetness in the soup)
6-8 c. water
2 Tbs. rice wine
Salt to taste
Directions
1 Remove skin of carrots and cut into smaller pieces.
2 Rinse red dates and yu zhu. Soak in water for 5 – 10 mins or till soft.
3 Blanch chicken meat/bones.
4 In a large pot, bring water to boil and add all ingredients (except gojiberries). Reduce heat to medium and cook for 10 – 15 minutes. Reduce heat again and simmer for 2 hours.
5 Add gojiberries. Simmer for another 5 – 10 mins.
6 Add salt and rice wine to taste before serving.
